Target + Neiman Marcus + 24 CFDA Designers = Major Collaboration

Yesterday, Target and Neiman Marcus revealed what is probably the biggest hi-low collaboration in fashion history. They’ve teamed up with 24 CFDA Designers to launch a limited time collection for the holidays, which will be available both at Target and Neiman Marcus stores and online at www.target.com and www.neimanmarcus.com.
While hi-low collaborations have become pretty standard these days, the partnership and participating designers are pretty impressive, to say the least. The roster is as follows:
Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Phillip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.
Some of the designers, as you may recall, have already produced limited edition collections in connection with Target’s Go International campaigns (Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung and Rodarte). For may of the other designers, this will be their first time. Prices will range from $7.99 to $499.99. Further details will be revealed October 16, 2012.
While I’m curious to see what the designers come up with, I’m even more curious to see how this major collaboration impacts the age old argument that hi-low collaborations water down designers’ brands.
