Detroit Design Festival Events for the Fashion and Beauty Enthusiast: September 19-23, 2012

Detroit Design Festival (DDF), founded in 2011, is a community curated and supported design festival created to showcase Detroit’s creative community. DDF, concentrated in Detroit’s Creative Corridor and several Detroit neighborhoods, will include studio tours, panel and roundtable discussions, lectures and fashion shows.
While there’s no shortage of the number of events lined up, here are a few DDF events that might appeal to the fashion and beauty enthusiast:
WORKROOM Haute After Dark: Eastern Market Night Tour
Friday, September 21, 2012; 9:30-11pm
Eastern Market - Russell Street; Detroit, MI
WORKROOM will host a fashion showcase at 10:30pm, featuring Fotoula Lambros Design, with part of the proceeds to benefit the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program.
Design Futures
Saturday, September 22, 2012; 12-5pm
A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education, CCS
485 W. Milwaukee Street; Detroit, MI
Design Futures will engage presenters and participants to talk about where design in the 21st century is heading. Disucssion will cover the role of social and participative practices in art, design and fashion. Some of the featured panelists will include Emily Thornhill of Homeslice Clothing and Eric Yelsma of Detroit Denim Co.
Changing the Way the World Thinks About Beauty II
Saturday, September 22, 2012; 3-5pm
Michigan State University - Detroit Center, Room 230
3408 Woodward Ave.; Detroit, MI
Inspired by the book, Changing the Way the World Thinks About Beauty, this discussion is an exploration in beauty. Join a distinct panel of speakers as they define beauty from their backgrounds, discuss and dispel stereotypes about beauty and elaborate on the effects of media on beauty.
Runway Detroit: Official DDF Closing Party
Sunday-Monday, September 23 -24, 2012; 6:30pm-12:30am
Detroit City Airport, Executive Hanger
11499 Conner Street; Detroit, MI
This event will close out this year’s DDF. The runway show will include looks from designers Anastasia Chatzka, Fotoula Lambros Design, Homeslice Clothing, and Kelly Lynne.

Ben Sharkey’s “Doll Face” Exhibit

While “Doll Face” isn’t an official DDF event, it is related, so I figured I’d include it. ”Doll Face” is a commentary on beauty in media and contemporary culture.
